The Grey Birch LaChassis TKD is a replacement stock set for the Ruger 10/22 takedown. They’re made in Canada and offer a lightweight, aluminum chassis, adjustable folding stock, and AR style grip options. Grey Birch asked if I wanted to try this one out and sent me this stock for this review.
Grey Birch LaChassis Features:
- Takes AR beavertail grips
- Push button sling cups on both sides front and back
- MLok slots on bottom and sides of forend
- Arca rail on forend
- Stock adjustable for Length of Pull, cheek riser height, and cheek riser position
- Stock is folding, attaches via picatinny rail
The Stock
The stock (the back part) is both spartan and also still feature-rich. The buttpad can be moved out to adjust length of pull. Personally, I find that Ruger 10/22 receivers don’t allow scopes to be mounted as far forward as I like. One option is to get an optics rail or receiver that has a cantilevered scope rail, the other option is to increase length of pull. So I opted to push that pad out pretty far to give me a longer LOP.
The cheek rest can be adjusted up and down to give better, firm contact that’s critical for a consistent shot. The 4 hole positions in the top of the cheek piece means that it can also be moved forward or back.
Finally, the stock clamps on to the LaChassis picatinny rail rear stock mount. This style of stock mount is very popular in the US for attaching pistol braces so I’d imagine Grey Birch will do well selling a pistol brace version of their folding LaChassis stock in the US.
Conclusion
Technical stuff aside, the stock looks fantastic. It’s easy on the eyes and the features it has are pretty practical: the adjustments are easy to set, it takes down just like the regular Ruger 10/22 takedown except it folds as well, and I like stocks that make the effort to use beavertail grips. It’s a great way to really upgrade the standard takedown and take it to the next level.
