Lyman Digital Trigger Pull Gauge Review

Lyman Digital Trigger Pull Gauge Review

The Lyman Digital Trigger Gauge is an easy to use gauge that checks trigger pull weights. At around $45USD, it’s also one of the more affordable units you can get.

Lyman Digital Trigger Gauge Specifications

  • 1oz – 12lbs range (2.8g – 5.4kg)
  • Uses 2 – AA batteries
  • Auto-shut off
  • Auto calculate average up to 10 readings
  • 4 position trigger pull rod/shoe

How to use the Lyman Trigger Pull Gauge

Usability is pretty straight forward. Pull the sensor rod out and rotate it to whatever orientation is the most convenient for pulling the trigger. Hit any button to wake it up, then hit the “ready” button and wait for the beep. After the beep, slowly pull the trigger on your (empty) firearm until the trigger breaks, then check the weight. Make sure you’re pulling straight back without angling the gauge. Between separate trigger presses, you need to hit the “ready” button.

Although you can use the “average” button to check the average of the last trigger presses, I usually just test 3-5 trigger pulls and call it good.

Conclusion

Although many mechanical scales are inexpensive, having a digital readout is nice. The biggest competition in the digital realm for the Lyman is the Wheeler Digital gauge. It’s a nicer unit, but also usually about double the price. So if you’re looking for an inexpensive digital trigger pull gauge, check out the Lyman.
